The Case That Shocked a Nation

On July 6, 2012, Skylar Neese snuck out of her Star City, West Virginia, home to meet her two best friends, Shelia Eddy and Rachel Shoaf. She was never seen alive again. For months, her parents and the community searched for her, with Eddy even helping to distribute missing person flyers. The case took a dark turn when, six months later, Rachel Shoaf confessed to the police that she and Eddy had planned and carried out Skylar's murder. The reason they gave? They just didn't want to be friends with her anymore.

Shoaf led investigators to Skylar's body, which was found in a wooded area in Pennsylvania, just across the state line. The two girls had stabbed her to death. Rachel Shoaf pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Shelia Eddy pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
