Celeste Beard: The Seduction, Manipulation, and Murder of Steven Beard

The Perfect Match or the Ultimate Trap?

When wealthy Austin media executive Steven Beard married Celeste Beard, a mother of teenage twins, he welcomed her and her daughters into a life of absolute luxury. Steven, a self-made millionaire who built and sold a major television station, adored Celeste and spared no expense to make her happy. However, the idyllic facade of their marriage quickly began to crumble. Within a year of their wedding, Steven filed for divorce before ultimately withdrawing the petition in an attempt to reconcile. It was a decision that would prove fatal, as Celeste began planning a way to secure his multi-million dollar estate without the risk of a divorce settlement.

A Secret Affair and a Deadly Plot

In the fall of 1999, Celeste spent time at a psychiatric facility where she met Tracey Tarlton. The two women formed an intense, secret relationship. According to Tracey, Celeste claimed she was trapped in a highly abusive marriage and threatened suicide unless Tracey helped her eliminate Steven. Driven by obsession and manipulation, Tracey agreed to a chilling plan. On October 2, 1999, Tracey entered the Beard mansion and shot Steven in the abdomen with a shotgun while he slept. Celeste, who had unlocked the doors and disabled the security system, pretended to be shocked by the attack.

The Trial and the Ultimate Betrayal

Though Steven survived the initial shooting and underwent multiple surgeries, he tragically passed away in January of 2000 from septic shock and a pulmonary embolism resulting from his injuries. Following his death, the investigation intensified. Tracey was arrested after ballistics matched her shotgun to the spent shell casing left at the scene. Realizing she had been used as a pawn, Tracey eventually made a plea deal and testified against Celeste. In a dramatic courtroom showdown, Celeste's own twin daughters, Jennifer Beard and Kristina Beard, took the stand to testify against their mother, revealing her erratic behavior, financial greed, and a shocking suicide pact.
