Nikki Cheng: Husband Charged with Murder
The Disappearance
On May 18, 2024, Nikki Cheng Saelee McCain was last seen at her home in Anderson, California. Her family reported her missing on May 22, 2024.
Nikki was born on November 9, 1984, in a refugee camp in Southeast Asia in the aftermath of the Vietnam War. Her family fled Laos and eventually settled in Seattle, Washington, where Nikki grew up as the third of seven children.
Nikki was stunningly beautiful with a bubbly, upbeat personality. She was always positive, loved to laugh, and had an extremely forgiving nature. Her sister Chloe said Nikki would be your biggest cheerleader and was a source of comfort and happiness to everyone around her.
Nikki was a mother of four, and her family was everything to her.
When Nikki disappeared, her family immediately knew something was wrong. Nikki was in constant contact with her sisters through group messages and calls, and it was completely out of character for her to vanish without a word.
The Search
On May 25, 2024, Nikki's Chevy Avalanche was found off Highway 36. Evidence recovered at the scene suggested to investigators that Nikki had been the victim of foul play.
Her family launched a desperate search, posting flyers, organizing search parties, and pleading with the public for information.
Nikki's husband, Tyler McCain, publicly pleaded for her safe return. At a March 2025 press conference, Tyler stood next to Nikki's sisters and FBI agents, asking for the public's help to find her. He apologized to both families and said he wanted to help.
But as the investigation continued, detectives began to uncover disturbing details about Nikki's life and her relationship with Tyler.
The Arrest
In August 2025, Tyler McCain was arrested and charged with special circumstance murder.
He is being held without bail in the Shasta County Jail.
Prosecutors allege that Tyler had a motive to silence Nikki—a motive connected to a disturbing history between them and a legal case that was dismissed when Nikki disappeared.
Authorities believe that Nikki has been the victim of homicide. Despite extensive searches, Nikki's body has never been found.
The Investigation Continues
Detectives have served numerous search warrants, interviewed family and friends, and conducted multiple searches. But Nikki has not been found.
A $30,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Nikki's location.
Nikki is described as being around 5 feet tall, weighing 100 pounds, with brownish-red hair and brown eyes. She has a forearm tattoo with flowers.
