Aliza Sherman: The Attorney Accused of Her Murder

On March 24, 2013, Aliza Sherman left her home in Beachwood, Ohio, for what she believed would be a routine meeting with Gregory Moore, the attorney handling her divorce. Aliza's divorce trial was scheduled to begin the next day, and she had agreed to meet Moore at the Stafford Law office in downtown Cleveland to prepare.

Aliza arrived early and waited outside the locked building. Messages from Moore's phone number told her he was already there, but she could not get inside. Minutes later, Aliza was attacked outside the office complex. A man working nearby heard her screams, called 911, and stayed with her until first responders arrived. Aliza later died from her injuries. She was 53 years old.

The Investigation Into Aliza's Murder

Aliza's death left behind difficult questions. She was in the middle of a contentious divorce, and early public attention focused on her estranged husband, Sanford Sherman. He was never named as a suspect or charged in connection with her death.

Investigators also examined the actions of Gregory Moore. Records showed that he was not inside the office building when he told Aliza he was there. His phone disconnected from the cellular network shortly before the attack, yet messages continued to come from his number. Investigators also found a deleted voicemail, missing surveillance footage, and devices that were never recovered.

Gregory Moore Faces Charges

In May 2025, a Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted Gregory Moore on charges including aggravated murder, conspiracy, murder, and kidnapping. Prosecutors allege that he used the planned meeting to deceive Aliza into remaining outside the office and that he either participated in or arranged her attack. Moore has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
